Useful German Party Phrases
I'm sure the Germans are not the first people you think of when you think about nationalities that like to party. The German stereotype is more the workaholic who perhaps takes himself a little too seriously. I still haven't figured out how the Germans managed to fool the world into believing that they are so conscientious about their work. The reality is in fact very different. Not only do the German's enjoy comparatively short working weeks but they also have some of the longest holidays. That's why meeting Germans on holidays abroad is almost inevitable because the Germans have so many holidays. Also these days Germans are more and more willing to accept a lower salary for more time off to enjoy quality time with friends and family.
A popular German pastime is of course watching football and celebrating in style with plenty of flowing lager when their team wins. The German language reflects the popularity of partying in German culture with a huge variety of funny German words to talk about having a blast. For example the German equivalent of "to paint the town red" is "die Sau rauslassen" which literally means to let the pig out. I think you'll agree this expression does a good job of capturing the spirit of wild parties and the kind of chaos that spreads across the country when the German national team wins big international matches. More useful German phrases for when parties turn to sheer pandemonium are "hier ist die Hölle los" and "die Post geht ab".
As already mentioned, more than anything else international football victories inspire some of the longest and wildest German parties. The German literally party until they drop or in German "Sie feiern bis zum Abwinken". So the next time you're looking for a friendly and fun party holiday destination, don't overlook Germany, especially not during the Football World Cup! I'd also advice learning a few more cool German words before you head off and you'll have no trouble integrating with the locals.
