Buying for Kids? Avoid Recalls!

When you shop for toys, you need to make sure that you know which of the toys you are considering are safe to buy for your children and which ones are dangerous. Some toys in stores have been recalled but the stores continue to sell them. If you have not kept up with the news and the toy recall list, then you could purchase some really cool toys that your children will love to play with but these toys may have some harmful materials. You need to be very careful when buying toddlers toys or anything for babies especially because a small amount of dangerous substance present in toys can be very harmful to them.

It is a sad fact that harmful toys continue to be sold in stores all across the nation, despite many laws that are supposed to protect children from toxic toys. Toy safety is a major problem that parents are losing sleep over. Although most toys on store shelves are actually safe, there continues to be toys that are dangerous for small children. Therefore, parents and other child-care providers need to remain vigilant in order to avoid injuries or deaths that can come from toy related issues. With more information, the scope of unsafe toys has been widened to include toys that were thought to be safe such as those labeled as phthalate-free. Bear in mind that even some products labeled phthalate-free may contain the dangerous chemical.

While manufacturers of toys should act fast to recall unsafe products and also make it available for parents the necessary information they need to allow them to buy toys that are safe for their children, some of them don't. You will no doubt have heard of many toy recalls on TV but there are a lot more toy recalls that are not reported. As a result, parents do not know that they are unsafe to use or buy. The government agency that is charged with keeping toys safe called The Consumer Product Safety Commission have put out alerts and information on toy safety but there are still lots of manufacturers that are ignoring Congress and continue to sell toys laden with toxic parts. The Consumer Product Safety Commission cannot do much about existing toys that are already out on the shelves.

If you suspect you have a toxic, toxic and dangerous toy or any unsafe product, you need report the incident to the CPSC by calling a toll-free Consumer Hotline at 800-638-2772 (TTY 800-638-8270).
